Everybody knows fairy tale of Grimm Brothers about girl that has a name Snow White. She was a princess living with her evil stepmother, a wicked Queen who wanted to have taken over the whole kingdom after the death of Snow White's parents. Fearing that beauty of Snow White will surpass her own, the Queen forced her to work hard. She also asked daily her Magic Mirror "Tell me, who is the most beautiful one of all?».
We also know and love the friends of Snow White, seven little dwarfs. They helped her when she holed up from her stepmother; they found her when she has slept and they burned her alive in the crystal coffin. This story became famous thanks to American animated film produced by Walt Disney in 1937 and called “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs“. Noteworthy fact: the film was based on the original German fairy tale, and it is the first full-length animated cartoon in the history.
Today every child knows the image of the friendly dwarfs of Disney but not many people know the history of these creatures. Also, in Germanic mythology, dwarfs are beings that inhabit mountains and dwells in the earth. Despite their small size they were often associated with wisdom, and also with smithing, mining, and crafting. In a word, they were miners from the ancient mythological world. Dwarfs were often described as short and ugly people. In this context, some scholars have questioned whether this is a later development stemming from comical portrayals of the fairy beings.
Also such mythological creatures as dwarfs have been an integral part of Western culture for several thousands of years. They were often depicted as miners in pointed red hats. The fact: this image of dwarfs-miners in reds hats was used as the prototypes of the mentioned Disney’s cartoon "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."
