During 300 years Spain ruled islands of Philippines. Spanish administration practiced mass baptism to achieve Christianization of archipelago. Now the Philippines are about 85 percent Christian, mostly Roman Catholic. Only in Brazil and Mexico there are more Catholics than in Philippines. That's why some articles named Philippines the only Catholic country in Asia. But it's wrong.
Since 20 may 2002 there is one more Catholic country in Asia named Timor-Leste or East Timor. This tiny state is situated in Southeastern Asia, at the eastern end of the Indonesian archipelago. Timorese people were under Muslim Indonesian occupation for more than 20 years, but keep their religion. Now about 98 percent of East Timor citizens are Roman Catholic.
