The world knows many strange hobbies and dozens of strange collections. Is there something originally a part of our human being nature that makes us to desire to collect strange stuff? People collect different kinds of interesting “exhibits”: oil paintings, political campaign buttons, guns, sculptures, post stamps, cigarettes, and coins from world countries and even toys from your childhood.
So, Francis Johnson of Darwin, Minnesota, USA has collected strings of guitar since 1950. After 50 years his ball made of strings measured over 10 feet in diameter and weighed more 5 tons! It is also known as a hobby to collect a hotel keys, and today are existing collections with more than 10,000 keys (it is a real dream for anyone who was to have full access in every hotel)!
But maybe the first prize for the strangest collection goes to Italian dentist Giovanni Battista Orsenigo (he lived in the second part of the XIXth century). Brother Giovanni Battista Orsenigo, was a monk of the holy order named "Ospitalieri di San Giovanni di Fatebenefratelli". He is known as the most famous dental Rome surgeon which worked in the field of stomatology from 1870 to the beginning of the XXth century. Long ago after his death, Giovanni Battista Orsenigo was nominated in 1972 by the Guinness Book of Records as the "most devoted dentist". During his professional career he collected teeth, and also this collection numbered in 1904 more than 2 million extracted teeth (more precisely, 2. 000. 744). This fact and record brought him international fame. All gathered teeth he kept in 3 huge boxes. All collection can be seen today in Rome.
